How to join

So you want to be one of those climber people? Fantastic! You can join at any point throughout the year and the club is always open to complete beginners. Here’s how to join the club:

  1. Join the “DUMC Forum” on Facebook to stay up to date with what we’re doing.
  2. Ask the IT Sec to add you to the club mailing list so you get our weekly emails plus all the information about our trips – Either contact the IT sec directly (Joseph Bongard) or email [email protected]
  3. Fill out our membership form here
  4. Pay the membership fee of £40 for the year (This is paid through the membership form website).

Still unsure if you want to join? Here is an idea of what you’re signing up for:

Access to come on our regular climbing day meets – almost every weekend there will be a day trip on saturday or sunday to an outdoor climbing crag or an indoor wall if the weather is bad
British Mountaineering Council (BMC) Membership and Combined Liability Insurance
Free use of the club gear – we have loads of climbing equipment you can borrow!
Access to come on our residential meets – we have a few climbing weekends away to go somewhere further such as the peak district, Winter Meet weekend in Scotland with courses run by Winter Mountaineering instructors, and our Summer Meet after exams where we go away for around a week!
The option to purchase reduced cost term passes to Durham Climbing Center (DCC)
Exclusive access to the 48 Bouldering Training wall in Hild Bede – DUMC Members can buy a key for £6 from the bouldering captain
Discounts in various outdoor shops (V12 Outdoor, Cotswold Outdoor) plus many more through BMC membership discounts
The option to compete for Durham at various fun bouldering competitions and to be able to try out for the Bouldering Team, who compete at BUCS
A great community of people to join and learn from each other. You’ll be able to find a lot of club members on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the DCC
